Taking into account the most frequented areas by tourists and visitors, the main access point towards the southern part of the national park is the town Baile Herculane. The nearest towns from where you can reach Baile Herculane are Orsova (15 km south), Drobeta Turnu Severin (45 km southeast), Caransebes (75 km north), Timisoara (180 km northwest).
An other main access point into the national park is right through to the Godeanu locality, being possible to reach the eastern zone of the natural protected area. Close towns to Godeanu are Baia de Arama (21 km east), Tismana (35 km northeast), Motru (49 km east), Targu Jiu (65 km northeast), Baile Herculane ( 41km south).
The northeast area of the national park can be accessed as you leave Closani village. The nearest towns to this village are: Tismana (19 km northeast), Baia de Arama (20 km south).
The northern part of the Domogled-Cerna Valley National Park is neighbored by the Retezat National Park, and can be accessed from the Jiu-Cerna pass. The nearest towns to this location are: Lupeni (30 km northeast), Petrosani (50 km northeast).
